Gum Disease
Sawchuk and D'Occhio Dental provides gum disease therapy for the treatment of gum / periodontal disease.
Gum Disease
The condition of inflammation of the gums, often referred to as gum disease or periodontal disease. Periodontal disease can lead to the loss of the tissues that hold your teeth in place. It is caused by plaque build up, a sticky film of bacteria that forms on teeth. While Dr. Sawchuk and Dr. D'Occhio are experienced in the treatment of gum disease, for more advanced, complex periodontal disease, our dental team may refer you to a local Periodontist for further consultation.
Gum Therapy Consultation, Process and Benefits
Periodontal disease can often be treated successfully. If the gum disease is not advanced, treatment can include less invasive procedures such as Scaling (removal of tarter and bacteria from tooth surfaces and beneath gums) and Root Planing (smooths the root surfaces, discouraging further build up of tartar).
For advanced gum disease, gum tissue may not respond to non-surgical treatments and good oral hygiene. In such cases, our office may refer you to a Periodontist for further evaluation and treatment.
Proper professional care of periodontal disease and routine, at-home tooth cleaning will reduce the issues often linked to gum disease including less puffy gums, reduced bleeding when brushing and flossing, fresher breath and more secure tooth to gum connection.
